Tour of Putah Creek Nestboxes.
Photos Hanika Cook
We looked inside 22 of the nestboxes to see nests, eggs, and chicks of several cavity-nesting species, including Western Buebirds, Tree Swallows, House Wrens and White-Breasted Nuthatches. Guests were able to look inside, take pictures, and ask questions about the birds and the Putah Creek Nestbox Project. Hanika Cook, Delayni Millar, and Maria Froelich showed the nestboxes, and Melanie Truan gave an introduction about the project.
Other species seen and heard on the walk included Ash-Throated Flycatcher, Nuttall’s Woodpecker, Swainson’s Hawk , Northern Mockingbird, Western Kingbird, California Scrubjay, House Finch, Mourning Dove, Black-headed Grosbeak, Spotted Towhee, and Black Phoebe.
Special thanks to Melanie Truan, Hanika Cook and their crew for making this event possible for the 11 participants.
